Read Aloud

We are counting down the days until winter break!  I have placed presents under the tree and everyday a child (or two) picks a present.  They get to sit in my rocking chair to open the gift and the book they unwrap is our Read Aloud for the day!  I think I am enjoying the Read Aloud books as much as the children!  (I KNOW it brings a smile to my face and warmth to my heart to watch their excitement as they unwrap the gift!)

The Little Red Elf

As many of you may have already heard, we have a visitor in our room that is causing a lot of conversation!  The Little Red Elf came to our room and is carefully watching over the kindergarten boys and girls each day while at school!  Each morning the children have to search to find The Little Red Elf!  A few days ago he was sitting on top of our tree and on Friday he delivered a candy cane to each of us!  It is fun to hear the boys and girls elf adventures from home too!

Election Day

Today we experienced election day in our kindergarten world!  We started our day with two important conversations....1. voting is private and mom and dad might not want you to tell everyone you see who they are voting for!  (Don't worry, I don't believe everything they tell me!)  2. The man on the telephone is not necessarily President Obama or Mitt Romney themselves and yes I understand why it REALLY annoys your mom and dad!  (I LOVE kindergarten children and the things they say!)

This afternoon we spent some time talking about what moms and dads do when they vote and then we had our own election!  First we set up our voting booths and after we each received our ballot we voted on one snack.  We placed our ballot in the special machine that counts the votes and keeps the ballots safe until they get counted.  After everyone voted we tallied each ballot and the winner was.....GOGURT!  We completed our election by discussing the importance of being a good sport!

Ms. Pam

Our special guest, Ms. Pam, Washington County Naturalist came to visit us on October 30th.  She brought with her some feathered friends, owls!  Ms. Pam taught us about different kinds of owls by showing us stuffed owls, owl feathers, owl talons and owl skulls!  We also enjoyed listening to different owl calls!

Halloween Fun!

We had a fun filled day yesterday!  I ask each child to think of what they would like to be when they grow up and dress up as their chosen career.  The children also brought a book about their career.  We went to the office to tell Ms. Doreen and Mr. Cayton about our career choice and after lunch Mrs. Hartsock's 3rd grade friends came to our room and read our books to us!  We also had pumpkin shaped sugar cookies and juice boxes with our new 3rd grade friends!  THANK YOU parents for helping us with our fun homework assignment!  Enjoy the photos!
