Team Work

We learn so many life lessons each week in our kindergarten room!  This week was no exception!  Free time was over and the children had been working SO quiet together so when I heard them say, "We always get so close to finishing this puzzle but never have enough time," I decided to give them a couple of extra minutes!  It was after completing the puzzle that I heard one child say, "Look at what we can do guys, when we all work together!"  I can never let one of those little teachable moments go unnoticed so we discussed how things go much faster when we all work together!  In the following days I saw LOTS of "teamwork!"  Hope the photos bring a smile to your face like they did mine!

Science

The children LOVE our science unit!  We are learning about wood!  This week the children experimented with water and wood.  They discovered wood looks different when wet AND some wood doesn't soak up the water as fast!  We are looking forward to sanding wood!

Math

The children LOVED our math lesson on shapes this week!  We discussed cubes, spheres and cones and then used marshmallows and toothpicks to create a cube!  I did send the finished product home....however, IF it didn't make it home it's for one of two reasons...it feel apart OR a snack was needed!!

Science

This week we introduced our new wood unit in science!  The children enjoyed exploring five different kinds of wood.  They discovered each wood was a different color.  The children enjoyed building with the wood!

Spring Fun

The children were very excited AND surprised to find Easter Eggs hiding in our room!  They quickly discovered that each egg had two letters written on them and they were student's initials!  It didn't take long for the boys and girls to find two eggs and add them to their "bunny bags!"  We also had lots of fun graphing Jelly Beans and playing a roll a number bunny game!

Guidance

Last week we Mrs. Kehoe started coming into our room for Guidance!  During the next ten weeks she will help us learn important life skills including how to get along with others, what to do if we get angry, drug safety and many others.  The first week students spent time interacting and getting to know Mrs. Kehoe and her special friend, Tuggles!  Our kindergarten friends were especially excited to see Mrs. Kehoe since her granddaughter, Hannah spent a day with us last fall.  Hanna is from South Africa!

Baby Chicks

Hills Bank employees, Tyler Coblentz and Cindy Oldfield came to visit and brought some fluffy baby chicks with them!  They read us a story about how the chicks hatched and we each spent time looking at them and deciding on names!  We were very excited to receive our own t-shirts too!  THANKS to Hills Bank, Tyler Coblentz and Cindy Oldfield for providing us with this hands on learning experience!

Deputy Schmucker Visits

Deputy Schmucker came to visit!  He brought coloring books and crayons and talked to us about "bad drugs and good drugs!"  We were quick to learn that good drugs are the ones doctors tell us to take and only moms and dads can give us!  We also learned that we should never take good drugs that belong to someone else AND if we find drugs around the house we should always give them to an adult!  Special thanks to Deputy Schmucker for taking time to visit us and help us learn about safety!  We look forward to the next visit, bike safety!
